Therapy & Coaching
Therapy
I understand how challenging it can be to find the right help, from the right person. You are unique and so is the way you experience your issue. Cognitive Hypnotherapy offers an approach which focuses on your individual need and by focusing on this I am able to create a way of working with you that draws from a great range of approaches and is not limited by labels or fixed protocols. Treatment can include interventions such as AMDR, Timeline, Rewind, Parts Integration and techniques drawn from NLP and Positive Psychology and EFT, depending on your requirements.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based therapy founded on a set of principles that I believe best supports the potential for lasting change in any individual; we therefore have the fundamentals already in place to work purposefully together in achieving your desired outcomes.
My methodology is also informed through the understanding of the Polyvagal Theory and the significance of Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs). I ensure that I always utilise a trauma-informed approach with all clients.

Evidence Based Theory
Research evidence published by NHS/NICE
For treatment of anxiety and depression compared with other therapies such as CBT.
Research evidence published by NHS/NICE, with results taken from a pilot study of 118 cases.
I work on the following principles:
- All behaviour has a positive purpose we are all doing the best we can with what we have available at that moment.
- Everyone has everything they need to solve their issues.
- The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you develop an internal locus of control, where you are in charge of how you respond to life.
- All problems are created by the mind, and so are all solutions.
- Trance is an everyday phenomenon present in every problem and an aid to the everyone’s solution.
Some common misconceptions:
Some assume that Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a cross between CBT and Hypnotherapy but therein lies a misunderstanding.
CBT believes that our thoughts lead to our feelings but in Cognitive Hypnotherapy we believe that our feelings lead to our thoughts. We therefore work with problems at their emotional level, understanding that it’s really hard to just think yourself out of a bad feeling!
Also, Cognitive Hypnotherapy has a different belief about ‘trance’ from much traditional hypnotherapy, which tends to believe that the therapist ‘puts’ the client into trance and that the deeper the trance, the better the effect. We believe that trance is a mental state we enter multiple times a day – for example when we daydream or drive on auto pilot in the wrong direction. Our unconscious mind gets us to behave in ways that it feels is best for us at the time, so is in effect putting us into ‘trance’ to experience a problem. We could argue then that Cognitive Hypnotherapist work to ‘de-hypnotise’ you from these unhelpful states and give you back control.
What does Cognitive Hypnotherapy feel like?
It is just a conversation between you and me. You will always be in control and will never be asked to do anything about which you do not feel comfortable. Sometimes you may close your eyes and listen to me, but you will always have the sense of where you are and what you are doing and can talk or open your eyes whenever you want. Ultimately, you can be helped to reach a state of deep relaxation and access a state of being comfortable and calm.
These conversations with your unconscious mind lead you to leave our sessions feeling a little bit ‘different’ and change starts to happen, little by little, gradually growing to much bigger changes. You start to notice how you are thinking differently and behaving differently – moving towards your future self.
